Vatu notes and coins
- The banknotes, available in denominations of 200, 500, 1,000, 2,000, 5,000, and 10,000 VUV, are a celebration of Vanuatu’s natural beauty.
- Coins, minted in 1, 2, 5, 10, 20, 50, and 100 Vatu, make for a handy way to grab a refreshing coconut drink or pick up a handcrafted souvenir.
Fun facts about the VUV
- Did you know that before 1981, Vanuatu used the Australian Dollar (AUD)?
- If you’re carrying more than VUV 1,000,000 (or its foreign currency equivalent) while entering or leaving the country, you’ll need to declare it.
- Interestingly, the French colonial influence is still evident in today’s Vatu coins. They share similarities in size and design with those used in the New Hebrides era.
- Due to inflation, 1VT and 2VT coins are now rarely used, and prices are typically rounded up to the nearest 5VT.
